Waatr LYT Self Cleaning Water Bottle

Anyone who wants to contribute positively to the environment will likely have a reusable water bottle. There are many options available these days, with some even keeping your drink hot or cold for a period of time. But until recently I had never heard of one that could purify water using UV light!

That is where the Waatr LYT Self Cleaning Water Bottle comes in.

How does UV water treatment work?

Using patented UVC light technology within the cap, 99.99% of e-coli are removed from the water in just 3 minutes. The science behind UV water treatment is that when biological organisms such as bacteria are exposed to UV light, the proteins present on the cell wall rupture. Thus causing the death of the microorganism. I won’t pretend that I understand it, but it’s pretty impressive.

How do you use the Waatr LYT Self Cleaning Water Bottle?

  1. The bottle comes with a USB charger lead. Plug the charger into a USB port and attach the magnetic end to the cap. Press the activation button to see the battery life.
The level of charge is indicated by a traffic light system:
    Red light = 1-10% charged
    Orange light = 11-39% charged
    Green light = 40-100% charged
My bottle took between 1-2 hours to charge first time. Although I wasn’t timing it or watching it too closely.
  2.  Once charged, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. The blue LED light will flash 3 times to indicate self-cleaning mode is activated. The cap will then turn on automatically every hour for a few seconds to keep the bottle odour free.
  3. Fill your bottle with tap water. Screw on the lid. Gently press the button on top 2 times to purify the water.

Can I use this bottle with any water?

No. Stick to tap water. The Lyt version is marketed as “perfect for everyday use” and “city water”. However, there are other bottles in the range than can do alot more, such as the PureMax 4D. Although this is a great product for travel, particularly as it keeps cold drinks cold for 12 hours and hot drinks hot for 6 hours.

Verdict

I did feel like the water had a purer taste to it. Where my other reusable water bottle started to make fruit squash smell a little fermented after being in the bottle for more than a day, this one didn’t. And as increasing my water consumption has been on my New Years Resolutions list for about a decade now, I hope that the Waatr LYT bottle will help me out a little!

Prices start at £49.99 for the LYT Bottle.

Disclaimer: I was gifted a Waatr LYT Self Cleaning Water Bottle to try, but as always all opinions are my own.
